Murano and Burano

Sounds like evil twins...instead they are just two of 118 islands that make up Venice.

Murano is the home of the famous glass, and man is it everywhere.  From tiny little glass pigs to giant glass sculptures - some abstract, some unbelievably detailed - all of it art gallery worthy.  Beware the Chinese knockoffs...all original glass should have a sticker or an etched mark that sayVetro Artistico® Murano. Actually after you've seen a few pieces of the real stuff, it's fairly easy to spot the fake.

I would have loved to take pictures of some of the amazing art we saw today, but they frown on people taking pics. Just google Murano glass and look at the images...yowza. The town of Murano is quite pretty as well, so here are some pics we could take:

A lovely lunch in little tucked-away courtyard

which was guarded by a giant Murano glass abacus.

The city centre and object d'art.  We're betting it lights up at night (it's entitled Comet).

We look like troll dolls.

Lovely drinking fountain (and bird bath).

The main drag in Murano.

A short boat ride later, we landed on Burano - known for its colorful houses and handmade lace and linens.

One of the main shopping areas.

Not as many people as in Venice, but still crazy crowds.

It was a beautiful day.

We turned off the main area and went through a little alleyway...that opened up onto this!  So many hidden gems.

And something you don't see at home.  Not sure if it's a take out place or exorcism store front.

Tomorrow we head to Como for four days before ending this magical trip.  We're tired, up to our eyes in good wine and pasta, and we're looking forward to only one planned excursion in Como(aside from looking for George and Amal).  A domani!
